Singaraja- Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) invited students to develop critical thinking skills. The activity was very important amid the rapid development of information due to the presence of the digital technology era.
The invitation was delivered through a public discussion organized by Student Consultative Assembly or Majelis Permusyawaratan Mahasiswa (MPM) Undiksha on Sunday, 20 November 2022. The speakers in that discussion were Dr. I Nyoman Subanda, M.Si., from Universitas Pendidikan Nasional, and Dr. I Nengah Suarmanayasa, S.E.,M.Si., from Undiksha
That event was opened by the vice rector for student affairs, public relations, and alumni, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd. In the discussion, he delivered that Critical thinking is really needed for students to respond to information that appears in the community. In the digital era, information develops dynamically, and it’s hard to control. “Students must have a competence or soft skill of critical thinking to sort through growing information. There is so much information floating around. It must be chosen, so as not to fall into things that are detrimental to all of us, both students and institutions,” he said.
He also emphasized, as academic and intellectual beings, critical thinking ability is very important for students to have. “Therefore, activities like this are really needed, especially the speakers invited have high capabilities, of course they will share positive things as provisions in lectures and others,” concluded Suastra.
The leader of MPM Undiksha, Anak Agung Ayu Anandita Mahendra Putri, said that the implementation of the public discussion entitled critical thinking was inseparable from the tendency of students’ critical attitudes to decline in problem-solving. “There are critical thinking from students whose way of conveying them is in an inappropriate way. It’s like being straightforward and loud, but it has no meaning,” he said while hoping that students’ critical thinking would be better through this discussion.
Meanwhile, the material presented by the speakers essentially invited students to be proud to be students and to be elite as students. Speakers said that when you want to convey your thoughts, you need to support them with a clear basis, definite arguments, and clear data. (hms)
