Singaraja- The movement of the Student Executive Board of the Republic of Students (BEM-REMA) at the University of Education of Ganesha (Undiksha) to share with underprivileged communities continues. Sunday (19/9/2021), this social action targeted a number of residents in Sidatapa Village and Pedawa Village, Banjar District, Buleleng Regency. The activity in collaboration with Baliaga Pedawa and the English Corner was attended by Undiksha’s Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs, Alumni and Public Relations, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd.
The Student President of the Undiksha Student Republic, Kadek Andre Karisma Dewantara explained the implementation of this activity as a form of community service implementation that is included in the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. The assistance distributed was in the form of groceries targeting a number of disabled people. “This assistance is indeed not much. But we hope this can ease the economic burden on recipient residents,” he said.
Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor Prof. Suastra appreciates this program. This is considered to show that BEM-REMA has a sensitivity to the conditions of the community. “This activity is amazing. The community really needs a helping hand from students. So I really appreciate this,” he said.
Delivered further, this activity is also in line with the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana which is also the basis for realizing Undiksha’s vision to become a superior university in Asia in 2045. One of the principles in this philosophy is pawongan, namely establishing good relations between people. “So this is a form of humanitarian realization realized by students who are members of BEM-REMA,” he said.
The Deputy Chancellor who has served as the Director of the Undiksha Postgraduate Program also hopes that in addition to distributing assistance, students can identify other problems faced by the community, and then solutions can be found for handling them. “By coming directly to the field, students can know the real condition of the community. Existing problems can be identified. Students can create programs that are solutions in nature,” he emphasized. Previously, BEM-REMA also distributed basic food assistance to residents in Bengkala Village, Kubudindingan District, Buleleng Regency. The target is deaf and mute people. (hms)
