Hundreds of students from a number of SD/MI in Bali took part in the Mathematics and Science Olympiad held by the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Ganesha Education University, Sunday (11/11/2018). This routine competition every year is a way to hone students’ thinking skills and foster a spirit of sportsmanship.
Chairman of the Committee, Anak Agung Astri Jualianti, explained that in the preliminaries which took place in each district, this Olympics was attended by 485 participants. In the semifinals, 50 people were sought and then 20 people went to the final. “These are participants from all over Bali. “Most of them come from Denpasar,” he explained.
It was further stated that from year to year, the number of participants tends to increase. It is hoped that this Olympics will continue to be looked at next year. “This is to hone students’ abilities, especially in mathematics and science. “We hope that in the future more and more people will participate,” said this fifth-semester student of the Physics Department.
Chairman of the BEM Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Gede Sedana Putra said, that apart from the Olympics, this Student Organization (Ormawa) also organizes Student Creativity Program (PKM) competitions, Student Entrepreneurship Programs (PMW), MIPA leagues and active participant in university dies natalis. “This is a routine activity every year. “The aim is to improve students’ abilities as well as a medium for channeling their talents,” he explained.
