Singaraja- The achievements made by students of Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha amidst the Covid-19 pandemic come not only from scientific works but also from the sports field. Three Srikandi of Undiksha are Made Diah Karisma Utami, Luh Suwandewi Utami Nesa, and Komang Jenika Puspayoni, who are members of the Archery Student Activity Unit (UKM) and managed to win medals from the IPB Archery Open Online 2021 competition. This event took place from 27 June to 18 July 2021.
Based on the information gathered on Monday (7/19/2021), this competition is divided into 3 divisions, namely Compound, Recurve, and StandardBow. The participants were from various universities and several clubs and Archery SMEs in universities throughout Indonesia. At the prestigious event, Diah Karisma Utami, a student of the Physical Education, Health and Recreation Study Programme, won a bronze medal. She appeared in the recurve division with about ten participants. “This is the women’s general recurve individual champion,” she said.
Meraih prestasi ini, perlu persiapan dan latihan yang intensif sebelumnya. The achievement obtained requires intensive preparation and training beforehand. “The impression that I feel getting this achievement is certainly very happy, and I feel proud,” she said. Archery is not a new thing for Diah. She has been doing it since she was in elementary school (SD), to be precise, in class VI, starting with her father’s invitation to become an archery trainer. “At first, I don’t feel any excitement. But over time, I wanted to pursue this sport seriously until now,” she said.
She dives deep into this sport not only because she wants to continue in the footsteps of her father, including her uncle, who was also an athlete. More than that, because of this sport, she can practice patience and composure. “In archery, we need to use our feelings and be calm, which is where you have to fight your emotional self,” she added.
Meanwhile, Suwandewi Utami Nesa from the Mathematics Study Programme manages to earn the silver medal in the Women’s General Compound FITA division. This achievement also gives a sense of pride for her because it can uplift Undiksha’s name and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) to the national level.
Similar to Diah Karisma Utami, she had trained in this sport since senior high school. This sport to train emotions has also led her to win gold and silver medals at Porprov Bali 2019, silver and bronze medals at Kejurprov Bali 2019, as well as at other events.
Different case with Jenika Puspayoni. This student from S-1 Accounting Study Programme manages to earn the Women’s General Compound FITA Division individual gold medal. She, who has been pursuing archery since high school, has also won a gold medal in the 2019 Porjar achievement, a silver medal in the mixed team, and the grouped team at the 2019 Bali Provincial Championship and others.
This brilliant achievement cannot be separated from the guidance of Undiksha Archery UKM supervisor, Dr. I Ketut Iwan Swadesi, S.Pd., M.Or. Motivation, enthusiasm, and encouragement to perform optimally continue to be given to the athletes. He also hopes that this brilliant achievement can be maintained and improved.
Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Public Relations Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd., expressed his appreciation for this achievement. “Despite the pandemic, our students’ enthusiasm for achievement remains high. Hopefully, more students will achieve achievements, both nationally and internationally,” he said. (lpsy)
