Singaraja- The philosophy of Tri Hita Karana which forms the basis of Undiksha’s vision as a superior university in Asia in 2045 is the commitment of the Student Executive Board of the Republic of Students (BEM-REMA) to continue to be echoed and implemented in practice. Efforts made through actions to protect the environment and help fellow human beings in the hope of a vertical relationship with the Creator have also increased.
Undiksha BEM-REMA President, I Made Ginastra explained that to realize this program, on June 14 2019 a meeting was held with faculty BEM, Study Program Student Association (HMPS) in Undiksha, Griya Luhu Community, Bali Kindness Community and the Cahaya Impian Social Foundation The Future (CIMD). “The meeting discussed future plans that could be made to reduce the use of single-use plastics in the scope of student activities taking place at Undiksha,” he said.
Efforts to protect the environment are carried out by handling waste. The plan is for BEM-REMA Undiksha to coordinate among students to dispose of waste at designated points and differentiate between organic and inorganic waste. In addition, this student organization will also carry out socialization on an ongoing basis to continue to raise student awareness about sorting waste before disposing of it in the space provided. Plastic waste collected by students will be accommodated in a waste bank. “Every few days, this plastic waste will be donated to the CIMD Foundation to be used as a craft material or to be sold. The results will be used to help the foundation’s operations,” he said.
Activities to reduce the use of plastic will continue to be increased, including types of supporting activities besides bringing your own drinking bottles. This is a form of support for the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education’s instruction No. 1/M/INS/2019 concerning the Prohibition of Using Disposable Plastic Drinking Water Packaging and/or Plastic Bags within the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. “This activity is planned to start as soon as possible. We are very enthusiastic because it turns out that this idea is in line with the minister’s instructions. So the timing is perfect,” said the Mathematics Education Study Program student.
The program has the support of the Head of the Griya Luhu Community, Ida Bagus Mandhara Brasika. “Basically, loving others can’t only be shown by providing material assistance. In fact, providing skills training to our brothers and sisters with disabilities can be very beneficial for the common good in the future. For example, I make plastic waste a material or item that has added value, or in other words, gives a second life to waste,” he said.
The same thing also came from the Bali Kindness Community, which was founded by three Undiksha lecturers, namely Dewa Ayu Puteri Handayani, Ratih Ayu Apsari, and Dewa Gede Firstia Wirabrata. The BEM-REMA program is considered very good. It is also hoped that it can run sustainably, instead of adding to the problem. (rls/hms)
