Hundreds of Ganesha Education University (Undiksha) students held a rally and scattered flowers at the Surastana Heroes’ Cemetery, Singaraja, on Saturday (10/11/2018). This annual activity commemorates Heroes’ Day. It is hoped that the spirit of nationalism, especially the Undiksha academic community, can continue to rise.
President of the Undiksha Student Republic, Made Bayu Hendrawan, said that this time the event was packaged differently from previous ones. Namely, a long march from the campus on Jalan Udayana, as well as speeches inviting all levels of society to maintain and further foster the spirit of nationalism. “Usually we come straight here. But now the concept is different. “Walk from campus,” he explained.
It was further stated that the students who took part were representatives of all student organizations, starting from the Student Executive Board, UKM, and the Departmental Student Association (HMJ). “There are hundreds of people who take part in this activity,” he said.
Meanwhile, Undiksha’s Head of Student Affairs and Public Relations, Drs. I Ketut Surya Panca, who represented the Chancellor, said that Heroes’ Day needed to be used as a momentum to raise the spirit of struggle, like what the heroes did in winning independence. “The spirit of self-sacrifice of the fighters is exemplary. “We must foster attitudes of heroism, patriotism, and nationalism,” he stressed.
