Singaraja- Mother’s Day, which is celebrated every December 22, is not only used as a moment to express love by children for mothers who have given birth, cared for, and guided. Not a few children give special gifts. This moment seems to have inspired students of the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) to start a business in the field of gift”. At first, one of the owners of this business, Titus Silvi Sadewi, a Bachelor of Accounting student, was very confused about finding gifts for his mother in the area around his house. There is nothing interesting that can be used as a gift. This confusion ultimately spurred his creativity to make an effort to gift the box. Running this business was done by cooperating with one of her best friends, Putu Cintya Wirda. Both of them come from affluent families, they are very happy because they finally found this business idea after so long wanting to start entrepreneurship to support their daily finances.
Named businessYour Gift Box it started running in December 2021. Without bothering to think about capital, the two of them started opening special orders for Mother’s Day. Enough with the contribution of each individual’s personal money, all the equipment needs of the order can be met. As the name implies, this business has its first product in the form of gift boxes whose contents match what consumers want. The box is then decorated in such a way that it looks very attractive. It contains mini dry flower buckets of their own creations that will further beautify the gift box.
In every business, besides creativity, innovation is also very necessary. Likewise with the small businesses owned by two final semester students. The business, which initially only focused on Mother’s Day celebration gifts, now has a variety of other products that make students their main target. This innovation arose from seeing the trend of today’s students who often give gifts to their relatives who successfully complete their final exams as a congratulation. What’s more, with so many tertiary institutions spread across Singaraja City, their idea has the potential to be increasingly in demand. These products, namely mini acrylic and custom medals.
According to Cintya Wirda or who is familiarly called Tiya, these two products are still relatively rare, especially in Singaraja. “As we can see, in certain months many students complete their thesis exams. So, there is a great opportunity that we can take advantage of. A bouquet of flowers is common, and there are already many sellers. Here we want to provide something interesting and unique so that later it will be different from the others.” she explained.
Armed with high enthusiasm, the promotion continues to be intensified. Utilizing social media Instagram (@yourgiftbox.sgr), many of their creative gifts are presented. Not infrequently they also held giveaways so that this business is increasingly ogled and known by the community. The great desire to be entrepreneurial from a young age makes them never feel tired even though they have to carry out orders while completing their final assignment. Silvi emphasized that as long as there is a will accompanied by proper time management, nothing will be disturbed. “What is certain is that lectures and theses are still prioritized. In the previous semester, if there were morning lectures, it meant that our orders were done in the afternoon. Vice versa. Now, able to we just have to write a thesis, there are no lectures in class anymore, so we divide the time, we use the morning as the time to work on orders, and the afternoon until the evening to focus on the thesis.” she said.
In the future, the two students from Banyuning hope that their business can expand. A new type of product is being considered in order to add variants of gifts that are available. They also plan to market their products in several markets place at some stage. (hms)
