Singaraja- Sayu Bella Sukma Dewi is one of Indonesia’s proud athletes who appeared at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia. She who took part in bicycle racing succeeded in making history. She won gold medals in the Cross Country Olympic (XCO) and Cross Country Relay (XCR) numbers.
Sayu Bella is a student at the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) Singaraja, Bali. She is currently in the second semester of the Sports Coaching Education Study Program, Faculty of Sports and Health (FOK). Her success in winning at an international event was also welcomed by the FOK Undiksha staff. This pride was expressed directly at a meeting at the Undiksha Jinengdalem Campus, Friday (19/5/2023).
Sayu Bella’s arrival on campus was accompanied by her father, Made Artawan, and mother Sri Astiti. She was greeted with joy by the leadership of FOK. On this occasion, Sayu Bella said that to achieve this achievement a very hard struggle was needed and the support from parents, family, coaches, the government, and also from FOK Undiksha was inseparable. This support provides relief when attending training.
Before appearing at the Cambodian SEA Games, she prepared for seven months, from October 2022 to be precise. The preparation was not limited to the physical, but also mental. Her hard work and belief allowed her to become the fastest among the 17 other participants in the women’s XCO event and win the XCR event. This achievement did not make her immediately complacent. It is actually a motivation to be able to take part in other international competitions and hopes to get back to carve brilliant results.
On May 22, 2023, the athlete from Tejakula, Buleleng will leave for Switzerland to take part in the World Cycling Center training. Speaking of cycling, the athlete who was born on August 16, 2003, has been practicing since 2017 and took part in his first competition at the Mayor’s Cup in Denpasar. In this event, she won the championship. Her passion for cycling continued and he appeared at the Bali Provincial Sports Week, the SEA Games in Vietnam, and so on.
Pride was also expressed by her father, Made Artawan. Initially, he did not expect his daughter to achieve this glorious achievement. However, after seeing her very high intention and enthusiasm in training and the experience she had previously gained, her belief in becoming a champion continues to grow.
There is an interesting story told. It turns out that as a parent, he once advised his child, Sayu Bella, to pursue other sports. According to him, cycling is a tough sport and often makes him anxious. However, with the results he is proud of, now he gives his full support and hopes to achieve other achievements.
The same thing was conveyed by her mother, Sri Astiti. She did not expect her daughter to win the championship and felt touched. In the future, she advised Sayu Bella to always maintain the good name of her family, campus, Bali, and Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the Dean of FOK Undiksha, I Ketut Budaya Astra, S.Pd., M.Or hopes that the achievements achieved by Sayu Bella can be a motivation for other students and for lecturers in developing interest in talents and coaching students.
