Singaraja- Neglect of the use of electricity by the community is still common. In fact, this has the potential to trigger a short circuit. This inspired students of the University of Education of Ganesha (Undiksha) to create an electric controller application. A tool that can be used to turn off or turn on electricity via an SMS link.
The students consisted of Kadek Reda Setiawan Suda, I Gede Ardi Darmawan, and Putu Zasia Eka Satya. Those who are members of one team are students of the Faculty of Engineering and Vocational Studies. His innovative work was also included in a competition held by the Yogyakarta State University Chemistry Student Association, on March 5-6 2020, and won second place. “We compete with universities that are considered superior. Those who have passed the National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS),” said Reda Suda on the sidelines of his meeting with Undiksha Deputy Chancellor III, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd, Thursday (12/3/2020).
The student from Panji Village, Sukasada District, explained that the application can be used remotely because it is based on SMS, which is preceded by installing a control panel on the home’s electricity network. “If for example ironing, keep forgetting to iron it. That’s dangerous. So.. through this application, we can turn off the electricity as a whole remotely. It could also be for several points. It’s just a matter of setting it up,” he explained.
Creating the tool only took about a week. Even though they have passed the competition, improvements are still being made. “We want this application to be able to use the internet. No longer with SMS only. We are still looking for ways,” he added. The creation of the work received appreciation from the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Suastra because it is considered capable of answering the needs of society. “It’s good to continue to develop. Because it can solve problems in society, “he said.
Further explained, after the competition, this work needs to be patented and Intellectual Property Rights sought. This will make it easier to develop, including cooperating with companies. “I will encourage and oversee, so that LPPM helps take care of Intellectual Property Rights. After that, it will be promoted. With this, Undiksha will also be boosted,” said the academician in Physics.
The creation of technology-based works by students and lecturers continues to be encouraged by Undiksha. This is an effort to increase competitiveness. “What was made was something the community needed. Can solve societal problems. Students must be sensitive to the problem,” he concluded. (hms)
