STUDENT Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) is expected to have field competence in entrepreneurship. This competency needs to be continuously developed so that you are focused on something other than a diploma after graduating from college.
This seems to have been implemented by a group of students from the Management Department of the Faculty of Economics. They are Putu Dio Artha Pratama, Komang Crisna Adi Putra S, I Gede Mulya Pradipta, Ferry Ditha Saputra, and Putu Slamet Widyantara who founded the OKS! Coffee Shop business.
At first, these five friends were brought together in a student organization, namely HMJ Management. In the end, their closeness was not limited to the campus environment, but outside the campus. Almost every day is spent doing chores, hanging out, and playing games together. They exchanged stories so that it could be said that nothing was covered up. Starting from childhood stories, and campus life stories, to serious conversations. One of them is a conversation about business.
Mulya, one of them is the most soulful figure entrepreneur. The other members’ interest in Mulya’s seriousness in taking on Mc Rocket’s shoe business became a topic of conversation in the afternoon at a coffee shop in Singaraja City. From the brief chat, an unexpected idea popped into their minds. With Mulya’s ability to manage a business, and Slamet’s skills in making coffee, coupled with the love of these five young men for coffee, it made him want to establish an OKS! coffee shop.
The coffee business can still be considered a promising business, even though it is currently growing quite a lot. Interests also vary, ranging from ABG, students, and young workers, to the elderly. But according to Dio who is also a bassist at a campus band, of the many coffee shops in Singaraja City, not many are able to serve the quality of the original coffee taste. Most still use instant ground coffee which has a different flavor from coffee that is ground directly on the spot. Therefore, he wants to be able to serve delicious coffee made directly at the coffee shop located at Jl. Komodo Island, Singaraja.
The OKS! coffee shop, which means OK Suksma, means an expression of gratitude to all customers who have taken the time to come to visit and finally started at the end of January 2021.
His business is only funded by the joint venture of four of the five members. Dio, Crisna Mulya, and Slamet as investors and Ferry as employee. With that capital, they buy coffee tools and ingredients, rent a place for business, and wage employees.
Slamet, the main barista, stated that he was the only barista there. Skills in dispensing coffee are obtained from working experience in a shop. But according to him, it would be better if all shop owners were OKS! have that skill. Over time, the other members also learned to become a barista. Now, Dio, Mulya, and Crisna are already experts at it.
Happy, they certainly feel it. Apart from having succeeded in establishing a business at a young age. This place is also a place to joke and tell stories while accompanied by a cup of coffee.
According to Crisna, a student from Bangli Regency, starting a business in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic is not an easy matter. The period of time required to return on investment is quite long. However, that did not discourage him from continuing to promote this new business through social media. Attractive promos are also always presented to attract people’s interest to come. At least they know the taste of the coffee served so that customers are expected to come the next day.
OKS Coffee Shop! Until now still running. The coffee menu is even more varied. Even though one of the four members has graduated from Undiksha, Dio remains loyal to developing business with his friends. He hopes that this coffee shop will grow big and have branches in all districts in Buleleng. (Diah/ hms)
