Singaraja- Ganesha Education University (Undiksha) held its 72nd graduation ceremony, on Thursday (30/11/2023). Graduates from various levels and study programs are expected to be able to compete and continue to improve their competencies.
This graduation ceremony was attended by 581 graduates from Diploma III to Doctoral level. In his speech, the Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan, M.Pd said that in order to create graduates who are competitive and skilled in carrying out the constellation of life in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and Society 5.0 which is relatively unpredictable, Undiksha has attempted to take massive innovative steps in the education and learning process. The knowledge and skills given to students in lectures lead to meeting the needs of the business and industrial world. “We hope that this time’s graduates can compete using the skills they have been given during their studies and can continue to develop their competencies amidst serious challenges in preparing human resources,” he said.
Through this opportunity, Prof. Lasmawan conveyed the development of Undiksha. Institutionally, Undiksha has 8 Faculties and Postgraduate Programs, with 16,921 active students including PPG, who come from 32 Provinces in Indonesia. Undiksha’s accreditation is A or excellent. Of the 78 existing study programs, 33 study programs (42%) are accredited as Excellent, 18 study programs (23%) are internationally accredited, and the remaining 27 (35%) study programs are accredited as good. Of the 611 existing lecturers, 362 (59.2%) have Doctoral/Specialist degrees, 72 (11.8%) have Professors, and the rest are still Masters. “We hope that by 2030 all Undiksha lecturers will have doctoral degrees so that we will have zero master’s degrees,” he explained.
As a concrete step in accelerating Undiksha towards becoming an internationally reputable University in Education and Leadership, in 2023 through collaboration with several foreign partners, Undiksha received a Collaboration grant with Sogang University Korea in order to improve Science Education in Indonesia. In collaboration with Xinyang Normal University, Undiksha successfully founded the Balingkang Confucius Institute, obtaining funding from the China International Education Foundation (CIEF).
Apart from that, since 2019 through the Internationalization at Home program, Undiksha has tried to become a learning home for the entire international community, both through degree and non-degree programs. Apart from accepting international students, this university in North Bali also tries to send Undiksha students abroad, such as carrying out PPL Overseas activities, internships, and student exchanges both offline and online. One of Undiksha’s premium (main) programs is the Fast-Track Program (3 years at Undiksha taking a bachelor’s + 2 years at MCUT taking a master’s) in collaboration with Ming Chi University of Technology, Taiwan. “Starting from 2021 to 2023, we have sent around 27 students. “Some have completed their studies, and there are also those who have immediately continued their studies to doctoral level,” explained Prof. Lasmawan.
Currently, Undiksha is in the process of changing from PTN-BLU to PTN-BH. This is done to optimize further the role and strategic position of the institution in the development of higher education. One of the breakthroughs that will be made is by optimizing existing assets at the Jalan Raya Sesetan Denpasar Campus. In 2024, several prospective study programs will be opened, such as the management study program, accounting study program, legal science study program, information systems study program, computer science study program, PGSD study program, Physical Education study program, English education study program, and postgraduate for all study programs. “We are currently building a new lecture hall tower to complement the existing ones, so we hope to be able to accommodate 5,000 to 7,500 students in the new academic year 2024,” said the Chancellor from Bonyoh Village, Bangli Regency.
Developing educational services is also a form of Undiksha’s support in facilitating public access to higher education. “Come study at Undiksha, we will provide the best service to make the nation’s best sons and daughters with a bright future,” he said. (hms)
