The International Seminar of classroom strategies for supporting students with learning differences was attended by the students of magister of English education at the Postgraduate Auditorium building of Undiksha on Tuesday (24/04).
Dozens of students majoring in English education were trained in the seminar organized by Undiksha cooperating with Integrate Asia Pacific, an institution that empowers communities, especially children with special needs. In the event, the seminar was focused on the training given to the participants about therapy for children according to their needs.
Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Padmadewi, explained that the seminar emphasized more on teaching strategies and the handling of the children who had different learning styles. During this time, in general, Indonesian English curriculum did not touch it yet, whereas those kind of children were often found.
“Many teachers do not understand how to handle, even they do not understand which one is autistic, ADD, ADAD. This seminar will equip students and teachers with the knowledge to recognize the matter,” she said.
The handling of children, in this case, could not only be treated in academic situation, but also through social behavior, movement, and speech. In the future, she admitted that she would foster cooperation with Integrate Asia Pacific, hence, more teachers, students, and lecturers would get the opportunity to develop their insight and knowledge.
Vice Rector IV of Undiksha, Drs Wayan Suarnajaya MA Ph.D, said that the international seminar related to learning innovation was very important for Undiksha. Undiksha as a professional educator creator was demanded to perform the teaching and learning process in an innovative way, not in conventional situation.
“With the provision of this teaching techniques and strategies, it is emphasized on how teachers can make their students consider the hard lessons to be fun, and this is a valuable opportunity given, especially by someone who is competent in their field,” he said.
He admitted that Undiksha would foster the cooperation with related parties, thus, this cooperation program could be implemented sustainably. Students and lecturers could also feel its benefit.
