Singaraja- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) held an Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) which was opened by the Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd, Wednesday (9/9/2020). This activity in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic was attended by 2,778 new students and took place virtually.
The Chancellor of Jampel revealed that the implementation of PKKMB, which lasted until 11 September 2020, had a different nuance from the previous year. Even though it takes place online, it is hoped that it will not reduce the substance that you want to convey to all new students. “Even though this activity takes place virtually, I hope new students can still get to know each other,” he said accompanied by the Vice Chancellors.
In this activity, new students were given a variety of material delivered by well-known sources. The material is about independent learning and an independent campus, nationalism, innovation in the global Covid-19 pandemic, successful strategies, anti-corruption, the dangers of drugs, and training in student creativity programs. “Hopefully the materials that will be presented by the speakers will be useful and of value to all of us,” said Jampel.
Undiksha as one of the Educational Institutions and Education Personnel (LPTK) in Indonesia continues to strive to improve quality and competitiveness. Various programs have been launched related to institutional governance, accreditation, publications, information, and communication technology. In addition, there are also programs for internationalization at home that made Undiksha a trend-setter university and an internationally reputable university. This is in line with Undiksha’s Vision “to become a superior university with the Tri Hita Karana philosophy in Asia in 2045”. To realize this, support from students is needed. “Students must take responsibility for increasing the university’s competitiveness. Currently, Undiksha is ranked 23rd nationally for the Student Rating Information System (SIMKATMAWA). I hope that many of these new students will succeed in achieving achievements, both nationally and internationally, “he said.
In the era of the industrial revolution 4.0, university graduates are faced with challenges, including increasingly stringent competitiveness. This needs to be anticipated by students from an early age. Students are asked to be encouraged to continue to improve their quality of themselves and put forward critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Collaboration, and communication. These four “C”s are the main capital for our graduates when they enter the workforce. Because we don’t know what jobs will be available in the next five or ten years. What challenges will we face in the future,” said the Chancellor from Nusa Dua, Badung Regency.
The development of student potential, according to Jampel, cannot be separated from the support of all lecturers to provide motivation and guidance. “As Chancellor, I will fully support both morally and materially. Let’s build this campus to be better and be able to give birth to Young Ganesh who is Superior and with Character,” he added. (hms)
