Singaraja- Dozens of students at the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) participated in basic counseling training and were appointed as peer tutors organized by Undiksha’s Academic Guidance and Counseling Support Unit (UPA-BK), Wednesday (31/5/2023). The involvement of these students is expected to strengthen and facilitate the outreach of counseling services to the academic community and the community.
The training which took place in the Seminar Room of the Undiksha Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) presented two speakers, namely I.G.A.P. Mas Jayanti, S.Psi., M.Psi., Psychologist who is disciplinary guidance material drafter for the Personnel and Human Resource Development Agency for Buleleng Regency and Gede Danu Setiawan, S.Pd., M.Pd, University Guidance and Counseling Study Program lecturer Panji Sakti, Singaraja. He is also an alumnus of Undiksha.
This activity was opened by the Head of Undiksha’s Academic and Student Affairs Bureau, Drs. I Made Yasa, M.Pd. He, who represented the Deputy Chancellor for Academic and Cooperation, expressed his appreciation for the re-implementation of this training, especially since there were quite a number of students participating. He said that the involvement of students as counselors or peer tutors is the hope for Undiksha to be able to provide maximum guidance and counseling services and be able to cover a wider audience. In the sense that it is not only present for the Undiksha academic community but also for the community outside the campus. “Because now there are people who need services. So that counseling guidance services from Undiksha need to be expanded,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of UPA BK Undiksha, DewiArum Widhiyanti Metra Putri, S.Psi., M.A. said that the training and inauguration of peer tutors were attended by 62 students. Reflecting on the previous year’s experience, the existence of peer tutors is a strength of UPA BK in providing services and being able to provide ideas or innovations to the programs implemented.
Based on the results of data collection and case conferences, the use of peer tutoring services for guidance and counseling by Undiksha students is quite a lot. This year and in the future, it is planned that there will be an expansion of services targeting the general public as well as specifically assisting social orphanage children. This program is also a form of implementation of higher education dharma for Community Service. (hms)
