Singaraja- Students of Merdeka Student Exchange Program (PMM) 2022 of Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) not only carry out diversity, inspiration, and reflection activities in the Nusantara module. More than that, these students from various regions and universities in Indonesia also held social contribution activities. This activity targeted the Udyana Wiguna orphanage, Singaraja, Monday (26/12/2022).
Social contribution activities are the last program of the archipelago module implemented by PMM students. The activity was filled with the delivery of groceries, socialization of CBP Rupiah filled by Generasi Bank Indonesia (GenBI) member, who is also a student of Undiksha, I Kadek Suastika, art performances by PMM students, and also games. This activity was greeted enthusiastically by the children living in the orphanage.
On this occasion, Nusantara Module Assistant Lecturer, Dr. Dewa Gede Sudika Mangku, S.H., LL.M., attended the activity. He said that apart from caring for others, this social contribution activity also fostered student sensitivity to the community’s conditions of life and increased gratitude for the good life that has been enjoyed today. “If students of the Nusantara module visit this orphange, they can be grateful for what they get now. They can go to college and even join the Merdeka student exchange program,” he said.
The presence of PMM students is also expected to teach orphans about various things, such as the importance of higher education, understanding of social issues, social media, and so on. “We hope that the presence of these students can really benefit the orphans,” he said.
The manager of the Udyana Wiguna Orphanage Social Service Rehab, I Ketut Mertayasa, expressed his appreciation for the implementation of this activity. He hopes that the presence of students can motivate and provide insight for the orphans.
Currently, the orphanage located on Jalan Dewi Sartika, Singaraja, is inhabited by 42 children from Buleleng, Karangasem, and Klungkung Regencies. These children received education at the elementary to high school/vocational school level. (hms)
