Singaraja- The General Election (Pemilu) which took place on April 17 2019 attracted the attention of various groups, including students who are members of the Ganesha Education University (Undiksha) Christian Student Association (PMK). In this democratic party, the younger generation is encouraged to become intelligent voters and not be apathetic. This was revealed in the national seminar which took place at the Undiksha Auditorium, on Monday (11/3/2019).
Chairman of PMK Undiksha, Elvraldo Klemen Simanjorang, said that the seminar with the theme “Beginner Voters, Smart Voters” presented two speakers, namely Ir. Daniel Adipranata, M.Div from the Leimena Institute, and Gede Bandem Samudra, M.Pd from the Buleleng General Election Commission (KPU). “This theme is because there will be elections in the near future,” he explained.
He continued this seminar with hundreds of student participants was aimed at providing understanding to the younger generation, especially students who are first-time voters, not to abuse their voting rights. “We want the younger generation to become smart voters. Not apathetic about politics. Moreover, this year is a political year,” he said.
Meanwhile, Undiksha’s Deputy Chancellor for Student and Alumni Affairs, Dr. I Gusti Ngurah Pujawan, M.Kes, on the sidelines of opening the event, said that the election was a big democratic party in Indonesia. Therefore, there must be support from all levels of society so that it runs smoothly, including voter participation as expected. It is hoped that this seminar can be part of that. “This seminar is certainly very important for the younger generation. “From this, we can better understand what things should be like during elections,” he said.
