Singaraja- The Youth Pledge is very important for the younger generation to understand, especially students. The values contained therein need to continue to be upheld. This was confirmed in a public discussion at the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) entitled “95 Years of Youth Pledge: The Role of Students for the Nation, Developing Indonesia for the World”.
The discussion which took place in the Ganesha III Room of the Undiksha Rectorate was organized by the Undiksha Student Republic Student Executive Board (BEM-REMA) and presented two qualified speakers, namely members of the DPD RI for the Bali Electoral District, Dr. Made Mangku Pastika and Undiksha academic, Prof. Dr. Dewa Gede Sudika Mangku. Participants were Undiksha students and students from the Independent Student Exchange Program (PMM).
Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs, Public Relations, and Alumni Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Ketut Sudiana, M.Kes, who opened this discussion, said that the Youth Pledge is one of the milestones in the movement to make Indonesia Independent. The Youth Pledge Pledge is considered a crystallization of the spirit to affirm the ideals of the founding of the Indonesian state. The noble values contained in the Youth Pledge are a love of the homeland, unity, respect for differences, willingness to sacrifice, national interests, spirit of brotherhood, and mutual cooperation. Entering Indonesia today, the younger generation’s understanding of the value of the Youth Pledge is faced with challenges that have the potential to cause the value of the youth oath established by previous youth heroes to fade. Therefore, it is very necessary to make efforts to strengthen and build spirit, one of which is through this discussion. “Understanding of the value of the Youth Pledge must be strengthened. “Today’s youth need to understand this,” he said.
The Deputy Chancellor from Gianyar Regency provided an overview of actions that reflect upholding the values of the Youth Pledge. First, “Confessing the blood of one, Indonesia’s homeland”, is realized by not destroying the environment, both the physical environment and the social environment, norms, and values. Second, “Claiming to be one nation, the Indonesian nation”, is realized by always respecting diversity and diversity. Third, “Upholding the unified language, Indonesian”, demonstrated by the ability to speak Indonesian both written and spoken, must care about Indonesian spelling, and care about oral communication ethics. “Other practices, don’t be sarcastic, don’t bully, anti-violence and sexual harassment, anti-drugs, and others,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mangku Pastika emphasized that the Youth Pledge was born in the middle of the colonial era and before Indonesian independence. Of course, making this oath requires courage. This struggle and spirit must be maintained, especially by the younger generation as the next generation of the nation and state. “What are we doing? Let’s formulate it contextually, according to the current situation and future developments. This change is extraordinarily rapid. Young people must be agents of change for the better. Learn to know, learn to do, learn to be. “Critical, intelligent, brave, spontaneous are the characteristics of youth, especially students,” he stressed.
Through this opportunity, Mangku Pastika, who served as Governor of Bali for two terms, also invited students to continue to increase their capacity and potential so that they can contribute to the development of the nation and state.
The resource person, Dewa Mangku, presented the material “The Role of Students in Crime Preventive Efforts”. In short, he said that the younger generation has a critical role in maintaining the existence of the nation and state, one of which is taking anticipatory steps against crime. In the context of the Youth Pledge, this is a form of love for the nation and state, love for the homeland. “Of course, preventive efforts against crime, including international crime, need to be supported by a strong understanding among students,” he concluded.
