The supervision of elderly individuals requires a specialized approach, considering the increasing vulnerability of their physical condition. Continuous care and attention remain crucial. Leveraging IoT (Internet of Things) and AI (Artificial Intelligence) technologies can serve as an effective tool to create a real-time monitoring system that ensures swift responses in emergency situations. Recognizing this need, students from Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) have developed an innovative solution named Elderly Smart Safe: IoT-Based Elderly Surveillance Prototype with NodeMCU, Blynk, and AI Automation. This prototype integrates IoT and AI to provide safe and efficient supervision for the elderly.
The PKM (Student Creativity Program) team behind this initiative comprises Gede Bakti Pratama Putra from the Computer Science program as the team leader, alongside members Ni Komang Diani and Ni Putu Anggi Juliandani from the Informatics Engineering Education program. The project was implemented over a four-month period, from April to August, with key stages including needs analysis, procurement of tools and materials, prototype planning discussion, design development, product trials, and final evaluation, concluding with the preparation of the final report.
The Elderly Smart Safe utilizes ESP32 as a microcontroller to connect various sensors and devices installed in the elderly individual’s home. The system leverages Blynk as a platform for remote monitoring and control through mobile applications. Additionally, AI automation is integrated into the system, allowing for object detection related to monitoring elderly. This innovation is expected to provide a significant positive impact, ensuring that elderly individuals receive the care and supervision they need while allowing caregivers to respond promptly to any emergencies.
