The condition of Lake Batur, located in Kintamani, Bangli, has become increasingly alarming due to the uncontrolled proliferation of red devil fish. Kedisan Village, situated on the shores of Lake Batur, has been significantly affected by the decline in tilapia catches, impacting both traditional and cage fishermen. This reduction in fish catches has negatively affected the socio-economic condition of local households. This situation has drawn the attention of students from Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha), who formed the PKM Baruna Batur Undiksha Team. The team consists of 5 students from the Faculty of Language and Arts, Faculty of Economics, and Faculty of Engineering and Vocational Studies, under the guidance of Dr. Ni Putu Era Marsakawati, S.Pd., M.Pd.
In this program, the PKK Kedisan group was invited to participate in the diversification of red devil fish products, focusing on producing fish pellets made from red devil fish. These pellets are intended to be used as feed for tilapia and other fish species. The program commenced on June 1, 2024, with 15 women from the PKK Kedisan as program participants. On the same day, the Baruna Satu activity was conducted, aimed at raising awareness among partners about the program’s objectives, implementation schedule, and the importance of the initiative. The event included a pre-test for participants, followed by a socialization session discussing the potential of red devil fish and the procedures for making fish pellets from red devil fish. It is hoped that this program will have a lasting positive impact, contributing to the preservation of Lake Batur while also benefiting the local community.
