The Smart En-Math Undiksha Team, one of the 2024 PKM Teams receiving funding, has collaborated with SMP Negeri Satu Atap Tianyar to carry out community service activities aimed at improving students’ numeracy skills. The team led by I Made Parka, and comprised of members Ni Komang Trisna Jayanti, Komang Pande Sudiatmika, I Putu Merta Adi Putra, and Komang Ririn Karisma Dewi observed that the physical conditions, as well as the literacy and numeracy levels of the students, remain below expectations.
In an interview with the school principal, the learning outcomes of Junior High School students from classes 7 to 9 are still lacking, as evidenced by previous semester report cards, particularly in numeracy skills. In response to this situation, the Smart En-Math Team conducted a numeracy Pre-Test on May 14, 2024, with targeting in classes 8A and 8B. The average pre-test results were quite low, with 8A scoring 46.7 and 8B scoring 41. These results indicate that the students have not yet met the minimum proficiency criteria set by the team.
Given the low pre-test results, the Smart En-Math team introduced the Smart En-Math media and officially launched the activity on May 25, 2024. This media serves as a learning resource for students, in cooperation with mathematical content aligned with the numeracy domain, while also embedding elements of Balinese culture. The inclusion of Balinese cultural context aims to shape students’ character and deepen their understanding of local traditions. This media will be applied 6 times during school learning sessions to support the School Numeracy Movement at SMP Negeri Satu Atap Tianyar as part of an ongoing program. Through this community service initiative, it is expected that students’ numeracy abilities will improve, as will be reflected in the results of the Post-Test to be conducted later.
