Sexual education, especially for children, needs to be continuously promoted to prevent cases of abuse and to improve understanding of sexuality. Students from Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) have taken steps to contribute by providing education through the PKM-PM Program. This initiative targets children with intellectual abilities (tunagrahita) at the Anak Unik Foundation in Kemenuh Village, Gianyar Regency.
The student team, led by I Putu Aprika Apsarendra Putra and consisting of Ni Luh Sri Ardhaniasih, Ni Putu Iswarya Harumtini, Ni Putu Okta Ginanti, and Ni Wayan Septiari, developed “Dengtif-Ria,” an innovative sexual education tool. This tool uses interactive learning media that adapts the traditional dengkleng game and integrates an audiobook. This interactive approach aims to enhance understanding of sexual education, offering long-term benefits to individuals with intellectual limitations. The program involves 38 children with intellectual disabilities as its main participants and will run from April to August 2024.
The implementation of this program is based on findings that show a lack of understanding of sexual education among children with disabilities. Additionally, the foundation has reported that teachers face challenges in providing sexual education due to the absence of dedicated sexual education media tailored to children with intellectual disabilities.
