Singaraja- Pandemic does not seem to be an obstacle for Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) students to continue to excel. This time, the national-level award came from the National IDEA #4 Scientific Writing Competition (LKTI) 2021 which was held by the Universitas Negeri Jakarta. The competition, which took place from 15 February to 17 April 2021, succeeded in bringing the Undiksha Team into first place. The work displayed was the study of traditional Balinese sewing ethnomathematics as a multimodal digital learning context in flat-shaped materials to optimize meaningful learning during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Undiksha team consisted of Ida Bagus Kade Hendra Adi Wirawan, Putu Wia Rosita Dewi, and Kadek Dwiki Juliantara from the Department of Mathematics. The title was chosen to promote Balinese culture, especially Balinese craftsmanship, which was used as material for teaching flat-building materials. “Where this study raises about Balinese culture, especially Balinese jejahitan which is used as material to teach flat shape material in mathematics learning so that students easily understand and construct material obtained at school by implementing (realistic) mathematics,” said Hendra Adi Wirawan as team leader. In this competition, there were 163 teams that took part from various universities in Indonesia. The success of achieving this glorious achievement certainly cannot be separated from the support and guidance of the lecturer, I Putu Pasek Suryawan, S.Pd, M.Pd. In addition, thanks to hard work and careful preparation for approximately two months. “We are very surprised and proud because we can win 1st place against hundreds of participants with amazing works from the best universities. Being able to display maximum work, even though there are many obstacles due to distance limitations during the pandemic,” he said.
The enthusiasm they have to make Undiksha’s name seem inseparable from previous experiences. This team has participated in various competitions, like the chairman Hendra Adi Wirawan, who was also the Runner Up I Teruna KMHD YBV Undiksha, who won first place in the Dharma Discourse Contest at the Jembrana Regency level in 2020. Meanwhile, Wia Rosita Dewi won 2nd place in the National Gematics Competition at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. 2020, best essays in the 2019 Acclamation Debate Competition, KBMI funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture in 2021, PMW funded by institutions in 2020, 1st place in the National Level Scientific Essay Competition at the University of I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa in 2021 and various other awards. Another member, Dwiki Juliantara, won the 2019 National Business Plan Competition at the University of Indonesia, the first winner in the 2019 Bali Mini Newspaper Competition, the third winner in the 2020 National Mathematics Essay Competition organized by the University of Sanata Darma, and the first winner in the Microlearning Competition held by the University Indonesian Education.
The achievements that have been achieved have made them enthusiastic to continue working and trying new things to get out of their comfort zone and remain productive during the pandemic to make Undiksha’s name proud. “The thing that motivates us is how to continue to work and try new things as well as get out of our comfort zone to hone and train ourselves to be productive during a pandemic while at the same time bringing the name of the institution on the national level,” he said.
Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Public Relations Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd., said he was proud of the achievements of Undiksha students during the Covid-19 pandemic.
