Singaraja- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) is holding an Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) for the 2023/2024 academic year. The opening of event entitled “Building Character for Future Leaders” was opened, Tuesday (15/8/2023). Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan, M.Pd emphasized that this year’s activities must prioritize a humanistic approach.
This time PKKMB was attended by 3,049 participants consisting of 2,975 new students and 74 repeat students. The students are divided into eight faculties, namely the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Languages and Arts, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering and Vocational Studies, the Faculty of Sports and Health, the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Medicine. This activity was held for three days at the university level and three days at the faculty level.
Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Lasmawan stressed that this PKKMB must be carried out properly, prioritizing humanism, namely emphasizing an approach that humanizes humans in various aspects so that no one gets hurt, feels uncomfortable, and feels sorry for choosing Undiksha as a place to achieve dreams and achievements. “Because according to the PKKMB guidelines from the Ministry, we are not allowed to make physical approaches. If that happens, of course, we Undiksha leaders will immediately take action. Because I don’t want new students, these Young Ganeshas to feel uncomfortable as soon as they enter their new home, namely Undiksha,” he said.
He emphasized that the essence of PKKMB is that new students can get to know the campus environment where they are active. Besides that, it is a space for the formation of mentality and morality so that students can get to know the campus with all its tools and activities. “That is actually the goal of PKKMB, so that these new students really know how to go, where to go, and what to achieve with that step,” he said.
On this occasion, new students were also conveyed regarding Undiksha’s future targets. One of them is becoming a Legal Entity State University (PTN-BH). So far, Undiksha has achieved a number of institutional achievements, both in the academic, financial, and student affairs fields. Achievements in student affairs have been very prominent nationally, both in academics, talents, and interests, as well as achievements in arts and culture. This is inseparable from the participation and synergy of students with supervisors, and the role of study programs, departments, and faculties. This achievement is expected to continue to increase and the role of new students is needed in the future. “I hope that the new students, Undiksha’s young Ganesh, will continue the tradition of making achievements and bring Undiksha to fly higher with achievements and streaks of achievement,” he said.
The Chancellor who had served as Undiksha Deputy Chancellor for Planning, Finance, and General Affairs for the 2015-2019 and 2019-2023 Undiksha periods also said that Undiksha is currently institutionally accredited A and has quite a number of excellent accredited study programs, and several study programs have been internationally accredited. In the future, efforts will be made to increase institutional capacity, in particular, to increase accreditation and the number of students and lecturers/practitioners of the international community who are active on campus. The support, commitment, and smart performance of new students are considered one of the keys to realizing this.
To emphasize this, he delivered a quote from a wise saying“Success is the conclusion of preparation and opportunity that is at a consciously productive point”. “For this reason, I would like to invite Young Ganeshas to optimize these opportunities for success by really preparing themselves and not wasting the opportunity to be successful in their studies at Undiksha,” he said.
During the implementation of PKKMB activities, the participants not only received material on university and ministry policies, but also others aimed at strengthening character, starting from anti-corruption education, preventing and overcoming radicalism, preventing and dealing with sexual violence, the dangers of drugs, and so on.
