Singaraja- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) was entrusted with hosting the Forum for Research and Community Service Institutes Association of Indonesian State Education Personnel Education Institutions (LPPM-ALPTKNI) on 22-24 February 2020. This forum is expected to be able to formulate programs that are able to answer problems in the field of education. “Through this forum, through research collaboration, you can work on, or conduct research to answer national issues, either with sharing funds from each university. Undiksha is very committed if there sharing of funding to conduct research on a national scale,” said Vice Chancellor I Undiksha, Dr. Gede Rasben Dantes, S.T., M.TI., after opening the meeting, on 22 February 2020.
This academic from Badung Regency said that the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) had issued an independent campus policy. It is believed that other policies will follow, especially concerning the existence of LPTKs which are related to the implementation of Teacher Professional Education (PPG) and the role of LPTKs in producing quality teachers. From this, it is hoped that the LPPM forum will be able to conduct research and community service that is relevant to this matter. “Today I heard from the Head of the Forum, that the government will provide funding to conduct research as a consortium to answer several national issues. This is very proud, and hopefully, this research will get very good results that will benefit the general public and also the university,” he explained.
Delivered further, universities have done a lot of research in various fields. But behind that, there are still challenges in terms of downstream. It is hoped that through this forum ideas will emerge to be able to strengthen synergies with local government and industry so that research results can be turned into products to answer community needs. “That could be one of the recommendations that can be submitted to a higher forum, namely the chancellor’s forum for further submission to the center,” he said.
In particular, Rasben Dantes also wanted this forum to emerge cooperation to strengthen journals owned by each university, either by exchanging articles, exchanging reviewers, or increasing the accreditation status of each journal. “If we look at Undiksha, from year to year, it has started to organize itself, it has started to improve itself, so that up to the latest data Undiksha has 78 journals indexed by Sinta (Science and Technology Index). I hope that through LPPM and the journal management team, this can be improved, both in quantity and quality. I also see that other universities will also be the same, “he added.
Head of the Forum, Prof. Dr. Suyanta, M.Sc., emphasized that research is a serious concern to continue to develop. In the midst of the industrial revolution 4.0, this forum has specifically designed research on the concept of teacher education. “The Minister, the Director General, the Director, asked us 12 LPTKs to design a teacher education model. This is a three-year job model of what teacher education is like in the industrial era 4.0,” he explained.
He emphasized that the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 was very attached to technology. Therefore, the pattern of teacher education must be able to follow, starting from the input, process, and output. “So we have to improve the model for recruiting prospective teachers, we make a model. So that we don’t just accept educational students later. You have to look at your interests, motivation, character, and academics. We also examine the process. The learning model must be developed. The conventional model needs to be reduced. The evaluation model also utilizes technology,” he concluded. (hms)
