Singaraja- Students of Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) have made another international achievement. This time it was “born” from a debate entitled “International Virtual Speech and Debate Competition” held by OIC Youth Indonesia & Language UKM – FLAT UIN Jakarta Sunday (11/8/2020). The team consisting of Ni Made Sania Indri Wahyuni, Ni Putu Ayu Niya Loviyani and Rahul Krisna Nasution won first place.
In the competition, students from the English Language Education study programme are faced with countries in ASEAN. In the final stage, the Undiksha team, under the guidance of Made Astawa Kusuma Mandala, S.Pd., M.A, faced Padang State University and, in the grand final with Lampung State University. The topics debated are related to international issues, especially conflicts between countries. “To get this achievement, the team made offline and online preparations,” said Mandala.
Sania Indri Wahyuni said that she did not expect this brilliant achievement. Her team was pessimistic about being able to take part in the competition due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “But we took the initiative to seek information while training ourselves and finally arrived at this competition,” she said. In this competition, she and her colleagues also gained experience related to public speaking and fostered critical thinking about problems and issues that developed in society. “Besides that, we also know the mechanism for submitting arguments. We learned a lot from other participants, especially from Malaysia and the Adjudicator from Pakistan. The jury from Oxford also gave a broader view of the debate, especially in English,” she said. Previously, this team had also participated in debate competitions at Undiksha and the national level. As a result, they won first place and entered the top ten.

Appreciate this achievement, one of which was able to boost Undiksha’s ranking in the Student Rating Information System (SIMKATMAWA). It is hoped that this achievement can continue to be improved. In addition, more and more Undiksha students are achieving in academic and non-academic fields. “We hope this achievement will motivate us to continue to excel,” he said. (lpsy)
