Singaraja- Students who join the Merdeka Student Exchange program or Pertukaran mahasiswa Merdeka (PMM) Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) were not only invited to know various Balinese local cultures through the archipelago module course. Students from various Universities in Indonesia were also invited to know and practice producing eco enzyme as part of the environmental awareness program.
Eco enzyme is a liquid from organic kitchen waste fermentation like fruit and vegetable dregs and sugar ( brown sugar or cane sugar). This product can be processed as a multifunction liquid, and its applications include household, agriculture, and animal husbandry. Basically, eco enzyme speeds up biochemistry reactions in nature to produce a useful enzyme with utilizes fruit or vegetable waste. This product is a waste management way that utilizes kitchen scraps to produce useful things.
The eco enzyme production training took place at the Eco Enzyme Nusantara Volunteers’ residence, Buleleng Regency, I Nyoman Sutrisna. Dozens of students followed this activity. This training was guided by the eco enzyme Nusantara volunteer head, Buleleng regency, Ferry Tanaya. First, he shared about eco enzyme benefits and the production process. This activity was followed by enthusiastic students that consisted of various study programs.
Archipelago module course lecturer Prof. Dr. Desak Putu Parmiti, M.S., who also came to this activity, explained that there are various programs followed by students in this course. The programs are related to Balinese local culture, diversity, tourism, and the environment. This Eco enzyme production training was one of the environmental program implementations. “We are open 14 programs. This is the 12th Eco enzyme production training,” She said. Meanwhile, eco enzyme volunteer, I Nyoman Sutrisna appreciated students’ enthusiasm to take part in this training because in line with the education he did for the people of the Buleleng Village.
Sutrisna, who is also the traditional chair of the Buleleng Village, said that he has been producing eco enzyme since 2019. This product has been used to meet household and plantation needs. As a result, the air at home feels fresher, and the plantation yields are better than before.
The students, Aldy Rizki Gumilar and Dinda Dwi Setiawati, said they were very happy to join this training. They got new knowledge about household waste benefits as a beneficial product.
This training was closed by Eco enzyme harvesting that had fermented in three months. After this activity, students are expected to produce Eco enzyme at their own homes and also educate other communities. (hms)
