Singaraja– Undiksha Student Republic Student Executive Board (BEM-REMA) carried out a community service program in the form of planting mangroves at Mimpi Beach, Pejarakan Village, Gerokgak District, Buleleng Regency, Saturday (11/14/2020) and Sunday (11/15/2020). This program is a form of implementation of Tri Hita Karana in terms of establishing good relations with the environment.
The planting was attended by Undiksha Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs, Alumni and Public Relations, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd., Pejarakan Village officials, along with BEM-REMA members. “This activity is a work program of BEM from year to year. Of course, the activity is one of the Ministry of Social Affairs’ activities in the environmental field,” said the President of BEM-REMA Undiksha, Made Vera Yanti.
Delivered further, this program is to increase a sense of concern, especially among students for the environment and the implementation of Tri Hita Karana. “Hopefully planting mangroves can have a positive impact on people living in coastal areas. Because we know the function of mangrove trees is to prevent seawater intrusion,” he said.
Concern for the environment is not only shown by this student organization with greenery. Previously, a beach clean-up action was also held in the Singaraja City area in the context of World Clean-up Day.
Vice Chancellor, I Wayan Suastra appreciated this environmental care movement. According to him, such steps are relevant to prevent environmental damage. “Moreover, this activity is also in accordance with Tri Hita Karana which is the basis for realizing Undiksha’s vision. Of course, the management is very supportive,” he said.
It is hoped that similar programs can run in a sustainable manner and have a wider reach. “This activity is positive and can provide benefits for all of us. So we encourage it to continue,” he concluded. (hms)
