Denpasar – The Faculty of Economics, Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) held an environmental awareness action in the mangrove forest area, Suwung, Denpasar, Friday (11/10/2019). The activity coupled with this international conference is a form of implementation of Tri Hita Karana (THK).
Dean of FE Undiksha, Prof. Dr. Naswan Suharsono, M.Pd., explained that higher education does not only focus on academics. But they also have an obligation to take care of the environment which is very important to sustain life. “Mangrove forests have very important functions, one of which is to protect the coast. That is why we are taking action to care for the environment by cleaning up trash,” he explained. Admittedly, in this action, his party could not clean up the trash as a whole. It is hoped that there will be tit-for-tat steps from the other party to continue it. “Of course, cleaning can’t be done today. It has to be sustainable,” he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Dean I of FE, Dr. Gede Adi Yuniarta, SE., M.Sc., Ak., said the clean-up action involved participants in the International Conference on Tourism, Economics, Accounting, Management and Social Science (TEAMS) which took place at the Golden Tulip Jineng Resort, Kuta. “Yesterday and today there were international conferences. We take time in the morning for environmental care activities,” he explained.
Undiksha is committed to maintaining the existence of Tri Hita Karana. This philosophy is also the basis for realizing the vision of becoming a superior university in Asia in 2045. For this reason, FE also has an obligation to implement it. “Caring for the environment is the implementation of Tri Hita Karana,” he concluded. (hms)
