Singaraja- Building fires have the potential to occur at any time which can be triggered by damage to electrical or electronic equipment. This needs to be anticipated so that it does not happen. That is the concern of students at the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha). Innovative works are made based on a technology called ELCO (Electric Control Automatic Tool). This work also won a gold medal at the International Young Scientists Innovation Exhibition 2021 (IYSIE’21) Malaysia, which took place on 25-30 October 2021.
The innovation was made by a team consisting of Kadek Yuda Wiryanatha from the Electrical Engineering Education Study Program, Gede Sandita Widiada from the Electrical Engineering Education Study Program, Luh Putu Restu Adi Utami from the English Language Education Study Program, Ni Komang Indah Juliantini from the Educational Technology Study Program, and Kadek Reda Setiawan Suda who is an alumni of Undiksha Electrical Engineering Education.
What is the work of ELCO like? Sandita Widiada, who represented the team, Monday (1/11/2021) explained that this is an automatic control device for home electrical or electronic equipment that can be deactivated and activated using an application. The creation of this work cannot be separated from the potential for fires in buildings, including his experience. “I have experienced unexpected events. My house once almost caught fire because of my carelessness in using electrical equipment. From that problem, with my basics in the field of electrical engineering, I try to solve this problem by presenting ELCO so that my home’s electrical equipment can now be controlled remotely,” he explained.
Delivered further, it took about one month to prepare the work, before participating in a competition with participants from 16 countries. “We are grateful to have won a gold medal in the Electrical Engineering category,” he said. The achievement, he continued, could not be separated from the role of supervisor, Dr. Nyoman Santiyadnya, S.Si., M.T., and the support of the Undiksha leadership.
Pride was also felt by the Undiksha leadership for this achievement. Appreciation was conveyed by the Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., in the morning assembly which took place virtually. “This is really extraordinary,” he said. He hopes that in the future more and more students will be able to make Undiksha proud in the competition. To realize this, support from lecturers in providing guidance is needed. (hms)
