Singaraja- Entering the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, students and university graduates must prepare themselves to face competitiveness. The mindset is expected to no longer be fixed as a worker. But capable of being an entrepreneur. This was conveyed by the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Menristekdikti), Prof. H. Mohamad Nasir, Ph.D., Ak giving a public lecture at the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha), Tuesday (20/8/2019). “Kemenristekdikti’s policy encourages students to become entrepreneurs,” he said in front of thousands of students.
Currently, there are quite a lot of young entrepreneurs in Indonesia. The company’s assets reach trillions of rupiah which are engaged in various fields. It is hoped that this can be followed by other students, especially Undiksha. “With more and more successful entrepreneurs, contributing to the development of the nation’s competitiveness,” he said. The business created is expected to be technology-based to increase competitiveness in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. This needs to be supported by creative and innovative thinking, good communication and collaboration as well as information or data literacy, including technology literacy. Students are asked not only to focus on studying one scientific discipline. “In the future, college results may not be a measure for getting a job. But what skills do you have?” he said.
Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd also assessed that in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, university graduates were faced with challenges, including increasingly stringent competitiveness. This is also offset by changes in situations and conditions that are fast and difficult to predict. Therefore, students have been asked to prepare early on by improving self-quality and prioritizing critical, creative, collaborative, and communicative attitudes. “This is what students should have. It must be a generation that characterizes the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0,” he said.
Mastery of foreign languages, at least English and information technology is also imposed on students. According to the Chancellor of Jampel, this is to increase competitiveness. Not only domestically, but also at the international level. To support this, this university with A accreditation already has an International Center of English Excellence program. “In the 2019 curriculum, learning English is also given more than before. For IT learning, students are also given space. Undiksha doesn’t just push it. But provide facilities,” he said. (hms)
