Singaraja– Encouraging news comes again from students at the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha). This time, from the 2023 Youth Cultural Camp (KBKM) event held by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) on 9 October – 9 November 2023. Undiksha student, Kadek Nova Suadnyana from the History Education Study Program succeeded in becoming one of the participants selected from 3,693 applicants.
This seventh-semester student explained that KBKM is an annual event regularly held by the Ministry of Education and Culture as an idea incubator space for the younger generation in efforts to advance culture through the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). The activity in this event is to create an application innovation or prototype as a group which is expected to be useful for the sustainability of Indonesian culture. Of the 3,693 participants who registered, only 100 people qualified to take part in activities held for one month.
Nova Suadnyana added that before going directly into the field, she received online training from 14 August – 9 October 2023. After that, she carried out residency activities in East Belitung from 9 October – 9 November 2023. As one of the participants carrying out the activities in East Belitung, he has a mission to revive the glorious history of tin in Belitung, especially in Lalang Village by making models, mock-ups, and site plans for the Semak hill area.
As a History Education student, his main task is to analyze the history of Tin’s glory in the past and try to recreate the collective memory of the people in East Belitung regarding the glory of that area.
This student, who has been actively participating in various competitions since the second semester, also explained that his participation in this program was not because it was in line with the Independent Campus program, namely Certified Independent Study and Internship (MSIB) which could be converted into credits in the Educational Internship course. “So when I pass the 2023 KBKM, I will get a credit conversion in the 7th-semester course, namely the Educational Internship course,” he explained.
Preparations for joining this program have been carried out long ago considering the tight competition and existing selection stages. This preparation is done by building a portfolio through various organizational activities that he is also actively involved in, participating in various competitions, and also having good academic grades.
His success in qualifying for this national event was certainly welcomed with pride because it could be a way to prove himself that the preparations he had made to the maximum could enable him to pass and beat thousands of applicants, even making him the only student from a university in Bali to pass the selection.
