Singaraja– The Student Executive Board of the Republic of Students (BEM-REMA) of the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) is involved in implementing the Community Service Program (P2M), Sunday (6/6/2021). This activity in commemoration of World Ocean Day was filled with cleaning at Penimbangan Beach, Baktiseraga Village, Buleleng, and releasing hatchlings. This activity, which collaborated with the Buleleng Social Community and Kamyu Food Stalls, also consisted of distributing groceries to a number of residents. The action that took place this morning is also a form of implementation of the Tri Hita Karana philosophy.
The Student President of the Undiksha Student Republic, Kadek Andre Karisma Dewantara explained that until now, the environment is still entangled in problems, one of which is the siege of garbage. The sea, which is a source of life, is also not spared from problems that threaten the ecosystems in it. On this matter, the student organization he leads moves to handle and at the same time support programs launched by the government in the environmental sector. “One of our goals is to have a positive impact on society and the environment. Cleaning the beach and releasing the hatchlings is one of the real things we can do,” he explained.
It is undeniable that the action being rolled out is only a small part of efforts to save and preserve the environment. Therefore, a similar program was then redesigned targeting other regions. “We will continue to make a real contribution to preserving the environment. We hope that in the future BEM-REMA can organize similar activities such as planting trees, mangroves, and so on,” he said.
Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., appreciated this activity and hoped it could be carried out in a sustainable manner, moreover, Undiksha carries the Tri Hita Karana philosophy as the basis for realizing the vision of becoming a superior university in Asia in 2045. “Tri Hita Karana is how we can create harmony with God, harmony with others, and harmony with the environment. Of course, this must be carried out by the entire academic community, one of which is this activity,” he said accompanied by the Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs, Alumni and Public Relations, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd.
The Deputy Regent of Buleleng, dr. I Nyoman Sutjidra, Sp.OG and Chairman of the Buleleng DPRD, Gede Supriatna, S.H. Sutjidra also gave his appreciation for the program which is one of the Three Pillars of Higher Education. “We appreciate environmental conservation activities, especially turtles. We know that turtles are one of the rarest animals in the sea and now we are releasing them into the wild,” he said.
This activity is also expected to be sustainable in accordance with the direction of the Chancellor of Undiksha. “So whoever later becomes the chairman of BEM-REMA will continue to carry out environmental preservation activities, apart from being mandated by law,” he hoped, adding that activities like this must also always receive support from the community. “We invite the community to always protect their environment so that it remains sustainable for the future of all of us,” he concluded. A positive response also came from the village government and the customary village of Baktiseraga towards the implementation of this program. (hms)
