Singaraja- Two students of the Fine Arts Study Programme, Faculty of Language and Arts, Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha), have passed to participate in an exhibition in the ASEAN Digital Art Society (ASEDAS) programme. They are Putra Wali Aco and Vincent Chandra. This virtual international-scale art exhibition to fight the Covid-19 outbreak was opened Monday (5/25/2020) through all ASEDAS social media accounts.
Wali Aco explained that the works on display used digital painting techniques anded newspapers. His work is entitled “Waspada (Beware of) Hoax Corona,” which tells about viral things that are being discussed by everyone in the morning, afternoon, and evening. His name is always mentioned on various social media.
News and issues are everywhere, and the media continues to spread the name “Corona, Corona, Corona, and Corona, thereby making people panic more, suspect each other, and don’t trust each other. In addition, his work also depicts excessive panic that creates a culture of helping each other in the midst of “So it is not only the Coronavirus that is a threat, but the coronavirus hoax can also be the toughest threat to the people of Indonesia,” he explained.
Not much preparation was done for participating in this exhibition. Wali Aco felt proud because his work could be paired with a number of artists from 18 countries. “Even though we can’t meet the artists directly, we appreciate being featured in one exhibition,” said a student born in 1997.
This is not the first time Wali Aco participated in an international exhibition. Previously, his work was displayed at the 2018 international printmaking and paper art show, BACAA 2019, and the Stay Hopeful International Online Art Exhibition 2020. “I hope this exhibition can continue and Undiksha’s fine arts study programme will always be represented,” he added.
Meanwhile, Vincent Chandra exhibited two-dimensional works in the form of drawings finalized through digital technology. This work responds to the phenomenon of irrational panic that has recently appeared due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A phenomenon where people try to control their sense of ignorance and uncertainty about a situation with a dramatic attitude. “I’m trying to describe it as happening in a frenzied market atmosphere, with people buying things selfishly, which causes commodities to become scarce,” he explained.
The preparations made to take part in this prestigious exhibition are generally simple and are the same as participating in other exhibitions, including preparing the works that are done as much as possible, finalizing the ideas to be conveyed, and so on. “Of course, I’m happy… although now real activities outside are now very limited, many institutions are willing to accommodate and support us students, aspiring artists and from any discipline to continue working,” he said hopefully, at this work will contribute to efforts to combat Covid-19, which is still a serious problem. Like Wali Aco, Vincent Chandra had previously participated in several international exhibitions. “This is a motivation to continue working,” he concluded. (lpsy)
