Another successful national-level achievement was presented by students from the Faculty of Sports and Health (FOK) at Ganesha Education University (Undiksha) who are members of UKM Karate. This time from the National Tebing Tinggi Open Championship event “Mayor’s Cup V” North Sumatra which took place from 30 October – 5 November 2018.
The athletes are Samsul Bahtiar Anwar, second place winner in the men’s senior individual kata class, Putu Agus Putra Bimantara, first place winner in the men’s senior kumite class -55 kilograms, and Ni Kadek Ami Ariasti, first place winner in the women’s senior kumite class -68. When meeting the Chancellor of Undiksha, Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., Tuesday (13/11/2018) coach, Kadek Yogi Parta Lesmana, S.Pd., M.Pd., said that to achieve this achievement, thorough preparation is needed, both physically and mentally. “We are grateful to get this achievement. “There is also support from institutions,” he explained.
He further stated that the champions had previously participated in the championship. However, the desire to explore other championships, especially on an international scale, is very large. “We UKM karate will also take part in the Asian championship in Jakarta from 20 – 26 November 2018,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chancellor, Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., really appreciated this achievement because it made Undiksha’s name proud on the national stage. But it is still hoped that in the future it will get better and be able to achieve even more brilliant achievements. “We at the institution really support students taking part in the championship,” he stressed.
According to him, this is also to hone skills and provide experience. “Moreover, Undiksha’s vision of becoming a superior university in Asia is of course not only academic achievement that is important. But also non-academic,” he added. (hms)
