Singaraja –As many as 31 Undiksha students have participated in the activity Virtual English Immersion Camp, which was held from 18 – 31 August 2020. Activities with the theme “Into the Wild” This is taking place online which is a collaboration between Undiksha andInternational Center for English Excellence (ICEE) and were also joined by students from SWCU Salatiga, Samarinda State Polytechnic, and Samarinda Politani.
The collaboration between Undiksha and ICEE has produced a programSpeaking Class and English Conversation Class since 2017. This time, after successfully holding the program English Immersion Camp (EIC) in 2019, in 2020 the EIC format was changed virtually due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. This program provides English language training and practice for participants which is summarized in a continuous 9-day program.
Vice Chancellor I Undiksha, Dr. Gede Rasben Dantes, S.T., M.TI. really appreciate this program. According to him, this program is very good at honing English skills and giving students opportunities to use English actively. “This activity is very prestigious for us. Even though it is in a different format, this program helps students gain new experiences in learning English and also get to know new friends from outside the university, even from different provinces and countries,” he said.
In his remarks, Rasben also hoped that in the future the collaboration between Undiksha and ICEE could continue in other programs. Not forget, the Deputy Chancellor for Academics and Cooperation also expressed his appreciation to the ICEE and Undiksha teams who had organized this VEIC activity well.
Meanwhile, Luh Intan Hadriyani, a participant in the Accounting study program, revealed that VEIC provides many benefits in honing English skills. “Even though it is carried out virtually, this activity provides many benefits, especially how to practice speaking English. I am happy to meet new friends. In addition to participants from Indonesia, we also know coach-those who come from different countries such as the Philippines, New York, and others. Anyway, this activity is exciting and must be continued in the following year, “she said.
The same thing was also expressed by Gede Budi Setiawan who said that VEIC provided a new experience in using English. “I feel happy because I can share my experiences with friends who take part in this program. Apart from that, I get new insights about practice or practice on how to use English properly and correctly so I am always enthusiastic about participating in this program because it is packaged in an interesting and not boring way,” said the Informatics Engineering Education Study Program student.
The implementation of the 2020 Virtual English Immersion Camp in the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic did not dampen the enthusiasm of the participants to take part in the activity and gain real benefits for students.
