Singaraja – Two Karate athletes from Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha, namely Kadek Andri Dwi Wahyudi won silver medal and Putu Suardana won bronze medal at the Jakarta Karate Open & Festival (JKOF) IV which were held from 13 to 14 February 2021. In this virtual championship, the team which is fostered by Kadek Yogi Parta Lesmana, S.Pd., M.Pd., and Ni Putu Ayu Krisna Dewi, S.E., sent 6 athletes who had to compete tightly with around 400 participants from all over Indonesia.
After the meeting with Vice Rector III of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd., Tuesday (2/3/2021), Putu Suardana revealed “There are challenges in this competition. I usually join offline championship, but now it should be virtual. It makes we have to show our best.”
He also said, “Apart from getting experience during this pandemic, we always have a target in each championship that we take a part. And now, we are targeting the champions in next Province Sport Championship.”
Meanwhile, Ayu Krisna revealed that UKM Karate (Student Activity Unit for Karate) always prepares their athletes to take part in championships. She hopes for Undiksha’s give support for athletes who won the best achievement. “Maybe later on, there will be some kind of personal support for students who win medals, for example a scholarship for them,” as she said.
Vice Rector III of Undiksha, Prof. Suastra, who draped this medals to the winners, expressed his high appreciation to the students and coaches who had made achievements during this Pandemic. He said, “I represent the leadership of Undiksha to express our high appreciation for this achievements in the current Pademi situation,”
Furthermore, Suastra expected that all athletes can do better preparations for international competitions and championships. “Now, it is our responsibility between Undiksha, coaches and students to maintain and keep the achievements we have achieved. By this achievement, it will be an additional mark for the students and universities, “he concluded. (PR)
