Singaraja- The University of Education Ganesha (Undiksha) Chess Student Activity Unit (UKM) celebrates its 11th anniversary. In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the series of activities were packaged differently. This UKM filled it with social services in the form of kitchen renovation of a resident in Sumber Kelampok Village, Gerokgak District, Buleleng Regency, Jero Nyoman Suardana.
These residents are classified as underprivileged. Their erratic income meant that they were unable to repair their kitchen, which had been damaged and inadequate for years. Head of Undiksha Catur UKM, Putu Dian Aristina said the implementation of this program began with a field survey. The assistance provided was in the form of building materials and continued into construction. Although not much, it is hoped that it can provide change and ease the burden on residents. “Today we hand over the building materials. Hopefully, it can provide benefits,” she said, Friday (7/8/2020).
Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs, Alumni and Public Relations, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd., who also attended, assessed this activity as a form of implementation of the Tri Hita Karana philosophy in relation to establishing good relations between people. This noble philosophy is also the basis for realizing Undiksha’s vision of becoming a superior university in Asia in 2045. “We really appreciate students doing activities like this. Being present in the community lightens the burden. This needs to be encouraged,” he said.
Delivered further, through this activity, students also get experience that can be a motivation in life. “By going down directly, they will see the condition of the residents. There are still economic difficulties. Students should be grateful because their life is better,” he added. Meanwhile, Jero Suardana appreciated the care given by the Undiksha academic community. He admits that so far he has not been able to do much with unfavorable economic conditions. “Hopefully we are all always given health,” he concluded. (hms)
