Singaraja- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) students succeeded in winning international achievements in the 2019 AWbF University Woodball Championship and the 2019 7th Korea Open International Woodball Championship. He is I Kadek Agus Suardana. This eighth-semester student of the English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Languages and Arts, is trusted to represent Indonesia.
The championship, which is held every 2 years, appoints South Korea (South Korea) as the host. There were 53 athletes recorded from 8 countries, namely South Korea, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, India, Mongolia, and Indonesia. In the championship which took place from 13 to 19 June, Agus Suardana, who traveled alone from Undiksha, took part in three prestigious events, namely Single Stroke Competition, Single Fairway Competition, and Team Stroke Competition.
With the capital of measured training preparation, plus the flying hours he has, this athlete, who is often called Agus, succeeded in winning first place in the Men’s Single Stroke Competition, second place in the Men’s Single Fairway Competition, and first place in the Men’s Team Stroke Competition, joining with team from Semarang State University (UNNES).
Not only did he win in the student competition. This athlete, who has competed in various types of championships, also showed his achievements in the Senior event, namely the 7th Korea Open International Woodball Championship. He, who was only allowed to participate in two Stroke Competition events, managed to win two championships at once, namely 3rd place in the Men’s Single Stroke Competition and 1st place in the Men’s Team Stroke Competition. In total, there were 5 medals that were brought home. Three gold, one silver, and one bronze.
Thanks to a series of achievements, Agus Suardana is ranked 8th in the Men’s World. This was greeted with gratitude because it could provide the best for Indonesia and bring Undiksha’s name to the world stage. “Astungkara, with God’s permission, I was able to complete the task. This is my last chance to take part in the student championship because I am in my final semester and will soon be going to trial. “So I have to maximize the opportunity and give the best,” he explained, Wednesday (19/6/2019).
The supervisor of the Undiksha Woodball Student Activity Unit, I Gede Doddy Tisna M.S, S.Or., M.Or, expressed his pride in this achievement. It is hoped that other students can achieve similar things and even in bigger championships. “We hope that there will be more and more Agus, especially in the woodball branch,” he said. It is acknowledged that Agus Suardana has won many championships in various competitions, both provincial and international. “His talent in woodball is extraordinary. “This is very encouraging,” he added.
Undiksha Chancellor, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd also expressed his appreciation for this achievement. “Of course, we are very proud because Undiksha students were able to win at the international level. “It’s not an easy thing,” he said. He emphasized that institutions with such achievements are not only able to make the name of the institution proud but are also important in supporting the improvement of the institution’s grade both at the national and international levels. “We hope that more achievements will also appear in other fields.
