Singaraja- Welcoming the industrial revolution 4.0, Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) is not only strengthening the quality of human resources, including graduates. This university, which already has a Faculty of Medicine, is also boosting the development of creative industries. This was conveyed by the Chancellor, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd on the sidelines of a meeting with Technology-Based Startup Companies, Directorate General of Innovation Strengthening, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Tuesday (24/6/2019).
The Chancellor from South Kuta, Badung Regency said that the development of creative industries is very possible for Undiksha because it has Human Resources (HR) that are not inferior to other universities. This just needs to be balanced with strengthening understanding. “Our human resources are not lacking. Through this meeting, lecturers who are used to research will be increasingly motivated to develop innovations. “The resulting research can be used downstream so that it can produce results or can become a business,” he said.
Innovative products, one of which is a vehicle body made from fiber, have been successfully created by lecturers at this eight-faculty university. This product can be produced further because it has a promising market share. “The information is that the annual need is quite large. If we can contribute there, of course, we will be able to get benefits too. “We as universities can also provide benefits to the country and society,” he said.
Apart from maximizing the management of existing products, Undiksha is also designing collaboration with regional governments to be able to exploit regional potential, especially in Buleleng Regency. “We will immediately follow up on this. Internally at the institution, faculties will also be meeting immediately. “Because in this creative industry, collaboration is needed,” he added.
Director of Technology-Based Startup Companies, Ir. Retno Sumekar, M. Sc., encouraged universities, including Undiksha, to contribute to the development of creative industries. However, it is emphasized that collaboration between faculties and between scientific disciplines must be supported. “In the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0, there must be collaboration. “We cannot work alone,” she said.
It was also explained that recently it was found that what universities were doing was limited to research only and had stopped publishing scientific journals. In the era of industrial revolution 4.0, it is hoped that this will no longer exist. “We want the state budget that is disbursed to universities to produce something that is income generating,” she stressed.
In the development of creative industries, he continued, universities can carry out existing innovations, then identify which ones can be turned into industries and which ones can be implemented in society or which can only be included in scientific journals. “Secondly, we can do research on industry needs, we can answer market needs, that’s what we have to pay attention to,” she said.
