Singaraja: Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha), through the Technical Implementation Unit for Guidance and Counseling Services (UPT-BK), not only provides psychological assistance services for students but also for off-campus. Like as was activity on Sunday (13/11/2022), assistance targets children from the Udyana Wiguna orphanage, Singaraja. The implementation of this activity is inseparable from greater risk factors for psychological problems, both in the fields of education, interpersonal interaction, and self-confidence in orphanages. In this case, peer tutors will provide psychological services through direct consultations.
This activity was opened by the Bureau Head for General Affairs and Finance of Undiksha, Ni Luh Wayan Yasmiati, S.H., M.Pd. She, who represented the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Cooperation of Undiksha, appreciated the program initiated by UPT-BK. She hopes peer tutors can motivate orphans and build their confidence, so they are ready to face competition one day.
The assistance activities are expected to be sustainable, and the UPT BK can prepare programs that can help develop the interests and talents of the orphanage children. “For example, if he has a hobby of painting so he can be taught to paint, or for example a hobby of singing, we can also invite the Choir UKM. There are many skills that can be learned so that children can live independently in the future,” he said.
Appreciation was also expressed by the Manager of the Udyana Wiguna Orphanage Social Service Rehab, Ketut Mertayasa. According to him, this activity is very beneficial for orphans, especially in personality development.
Meanwhile, the Head of UPT BK Undiksha, Dewi Arum Widhiyanti Metra Putri, S.Psi., M.A., explained that there were several activities on this psychological assistance, starting from providing tips and tricks to increasing self-confidence and managing academic abilities. Besides that, there were also games related to self-confidence and consultation in the form of groups.
UPT BK Undiksha will carry out continuous assistance. It is hoped that through this program, the orphans can develop optimally and will be able to overcome various problems later. “Our hope is, in the future the children of this orphanage can develop optimally like other children who live with their families. If there are obstacles in terms of academics or anything else, they can handle them well,” he added.
The implementation of this activity also made an unforgettable impression on peer tutors, such as Luh Wahyuningsih and Ayun Pramesti Woro Hapsari. They can hone their skills in consulting with other people and can socialize with orphans.
In being a peer tutor, there are several challenges to face, starting from the audience’s ability to hear and understand the information provided to build the trust of the person being consulted. (hms)
