Singaraja- Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) was visited by the Academic Senate of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya on Thursday (2/2/2023). This visit was in the context of a comparative study of the faculty of medicine establishment.
The presence of the ITS Academic Senate was led directly by the senate head, Prof. Dr. Syafsir Akhlus, M.Sc. He and his entourage were received by the Undiksha Senate head, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Sudiana, M.Pd., accompanied by Undiksha Rector, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., and several members. On this occasion, Prof. Syafsir Akhlus conveyed his visit to Undiksha because he considered Undiksha a university that successfully opened a Medical Study Program and consistently ran it well. This experience is expected to be adopted by ITS. “Because currently, we at ITS are preparing to open the Faculty of Medicine. So this is a kind of comparative study. So we learn from what has been done here so that later we can adopt and adapt it for the development of ITS in the future,” he said.
Undiksha Senate head, Prof. Sudiana, admitted that he was proud to be visited by one of Indonesia’s big and famous universities. According to him, collaboration in institutional development is essential, including in sharing information on establishing medical study programs whose requirements are stringent. “In opening this Medical Study Program, a much more thorough preparation is needed than proposing other study programs, because these are very strict requirements and it involves many institutions, not only the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, but also with others,” he said.
The Senate head, who had served as Rector of Undiksha for two periods, hoped that ITS’s steps to establish the Faculty of Medicine could be achieved. Affirmed, Undiksha is ready to share information outside this meeting. “Hopefully what is the purpose of the ITS Academic Senate visit can be achieved by us providing information related to the proposal for the Faculty of Medicine and while we will communicate later,” he added.
Meanwhile, Undiksha Rector Prof. Jampel appreciated making Undiksha a place for comparative studies. He said the establishment of a medical faculty is not only sufficiently supported by the readiness of Human Resources but also in terms of infrastructure and support from related stakeholders. Seeing its extraordinary development, ITS is believed to be able to fulfill this. “Here I see the Academic Senate has approved the proposal from the ITS Rector. That must be the way. So with us sharing they get knowledge from Undiksha, astungkara the Medical Study Program opened by ITS can run well and maybe it can be better than Undiksha, “he said.
This ITS visit motivates Undiksha to continue improving the quality of the Faculty of Medicine and realizing Undiksha as a trendsetter and internationally reputable university, Prof. Jampel.
