Singaraja- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) is strengthening preparations as a disaster preparedness campus. The steps taken were not only to form working groups but also to prepare the necessary documents. This was discussed in a coordination meeting which was also attended by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Buleleng Regency, Thursday (28/7/2022).
This coordination meeting was opened by the Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs, Public Relations, and Undiksha Alumni, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd. He, who represented the Chancellor, conveyed Undiksha’s desire to become a disaster preparedness campus as a form of anticipation of potential disasters that could occur at any time. Through this program, it is hoped that the knowledge of the academic community about disasters and their mitigation can increase. He also hopes Undiksha as a disaster preparedness campus can be launched in early 2023.
He also said, with Undiksha as a disaster preparedness campus, in the future, it can also be involved in disaster management outside the campus together with BPBD. Therefore, there is a need for continuous education and simulations.
The Chief Executive of BPBD Buleleng, Putu Ariadi Pribadi, stated that he was ready to work together with Undiksha. He explained, to become a disaster preparedness campus, there are a number of things that must be prepared, starting from disaster management including SOPs, infrastructure, installation of evacuation route signs, assembly points, and simulations. “We do regular training. The hope is that if a disaster occurs it can reduce the number of fatalities,” he said.
Apart from being a disaster preparedness campus, the former Head of Gerokgak Sub-District, Buleleng Regency also hopes that in the future Undiksha can become a center for disaster studies, which in turn can work together with local governments in conducting disaster risk studies, formulating policies, and so on.
