Singaraja – The karate athletes of Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha), representing the Karate Students Activity Unit (UKM Karate), have once again achieved outstanding success. This time, they secured victories at the Selangor Shukaido Karate Open Cup 2024 in Malaysia, held from December to 8, 2024. The team proudly brought home three gold medals and one silver medal from the competition. The Gold Medals were won by Ngurah Yoga Pratama Putra in the senior men’s kumite -67kg category, Putu Wisnu Kencana in the senior men’s kumite -75kg category, and Gusti Ayu Rahadian Pradnyani Parameswari in the senior women’s kumite -55kg category. Meanwhile, the silver medal was secured by I Putu Sackli Eka Nata in the senior men’s kumite -60kg category.
This remarkable achievement was reported directly to Prof. Dr. I Ketut Sudiana, M.Kes., Undiksha’s Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Public Relations, on December 16, 2024. Dr. I Kadek Yogi Parta Lesmana, S.Pd., M.Pd., UKM Karate’s coach, highlighted that this success was the result of rigorous preparation and hard work. “We are very grateful for this outstanding result. Our karatekas faced tough opponents at the international level, but thanks to their hard work and intensive training, they emerged victorious,” he said.
He also emphasized that preparation included intense training sessions and consistent weight management to ensure the athletes competed in the appropriate categories. Vice Rector Prof. Sudiana expressed high appreciation for the karate athletes’ dedication and achievements. “We are incredibly proud and grateful for the dedication and efforts of these students,” he stated. This victory is expected to inspire other Undiksha students to excel in various fields. It also reaffirms Undiksha’s commitment to supporting student development both academically and non-academically. Moving forward, the university will continue to encourage student organizations and activity units to achieve excellence at national and international levels.
