Singaraja- Department of Industrial Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Vocational Studies Undiksha introduced “Surface Water” vehicles. The manufacture on this vehicle is the result of collaboration with students which can be used to clean marine debris.
Head of the Department of Industrial Technology, Dr. Kadek Rihendra Dantes, S.T., M.T. explained that the manufacture of this vehicle was initiated in 2018 with funding from the faculty in an effort to boost innovation products from the study program. Through this product, his party wants to contribute to coastal communities in handling marine debris as well as a global problem. This vehicle trial was carried out at Penimbangan Beach – Buleleng, Friday (15/1/2021). This product continues to be refined, especially on a more aerodynamic body. In addition, this tool will be developed to identify coral reefs.
The production of this vehicle received a positive response from the companion of the Indonesian Coral Reef Garden (ICRG) Buleleng, Iwan Setia Budi. He explained that the waste problem is still a major problem at sea, especially in the Buleleng Regency area. The procurement of handling equipment is considered very feasible. He also supports the development of this vehicle, so that later it can be maximally utilized.
One of the students, who was also involved in the vehicle manufacture, Dewa Gede Oka Sastrawan said that this vehicle was manufactured for six months with some trial and error in developing this product.
After the trial, his team will make improvements, especially in the control system. It is expected that the development of this vehicle will get support from the government and can be produced more, so that marine debris cleaning can be carried out more quickly. Apart from these products, the Department of Industrial Technology also makes other innovative products, such as electric motors, water suction devices, solar powered rice sprayers and so on. (pr)
