Chief Executive, Drs. Ign. I Wayan Suwatra, M.Pd., said that like other universities, Undiksha is part of an institution operating in the field of higher education, which is expected to be able to develop, prioritize quality, be professional, effective, and efficient. Graduates are required to have reliable and competitive competencies. In response to this, the university, which has a Faculty of Medicine as of August 2018, is intensively providing training to students, one of which is packaged through outbound activities which include soft skills education. Education is an ability, talent, or skill that exists within every human being which can be said to be a personal and interpersonal skill. “Through the development of soft skills, students get added value to become more characterful, complementing hard skills,” he stressed.
Soft skills education, he continued, is a form of developing student development programs. This is a weapon in increasing the competitiveness of graduates as one of the outputs of excellence programs in education. “Efforts to improve the quality of graduates are not only carried out through quality assurance in the implementation of teaching and learning activities but also student development programs are aimed at providing added value to increase the competitiveness of graduates in the national and international job market,” he said.
Especially for outbound participants, each faculty has 200 representatives. Apart from that, 20 affirmation students and 14 people from UKM Scouts were also invited. “This activity also provides students with experience in managing a team or as a team member to achieve a common goal.
“Forming students’ character as prospective graduates who will later enter society,” he explained.
Undiksha Deputy Chancellor for Student and Alumni Affairs, Dr. I Gusti Ngurah Pujawan, M.Kes., said that this activity was also to support the realization of Undiksha’s vision as a superior university based on the Tri Hita Karana philosophy in Asia in 2045. “Soft skills are not only important for students. “But also for all components,” he said.
It was also emphasized that such education is not only provided by universities. But also from the general public. “As an educational institution, we are obliged to organize this as a platform for students to implement good things,” he added. (hms)
