Singaraja – Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) is encouraging students in the Pre-service Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program to develop comprehensive skills, starting from designing, implementing, and evaluating programs, particularly in the context of learning. This initiative is being fostered through leadership projects, involving PPG Preservice II students for 2023, held on Saturday, August 8, 2024.
The leadership program event, conducted at the Undiksha Post-Graduate Program Seminar Room, featured 12 teams from the Language, Sport Education, and Education clusters, involving 136 students. The projects presented included learning media, eco-friendly products, and creative business products.
The chief organizer, I Made Sarmita, S.Pd., M.Sc., explained that the leadership project is one of thecourses for Pre-service PPG students. The course aims to develop student leadership abilities through community-based service learning projects.
The leadership project course started with an investigation phase, where students identified various community issues that required further action. Followed by project planning, implementation, reflection, and demonstration phases.
Furthermore, this activity was conducted in collaboration with partners involved in social and environmental efforts in Buleleng Regency. The student- led projects are expected to contribute to social empowerment within the community and enhance students’ skills in promoting project-based learning.
This leadership project was opened by the Head of the Quality Assurance and Learning Development Institute (LPMPP) at Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Made Tegeh, S.Pd., M.Pd. He represented the Rector of Undiksha. He emphasized that community service-based projects undertaken by students are an added value in the Pre-service PPG program. Through these projects, students gain valuable knowledge and experience in designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs, which they must also apply in their future teaching careers. “In the future, students are expected to become leaders with strong competencies in pedagogy, professionalism, social interaction, and personal character,” he remarked.
Academician from Panji Village, Sukasada, Buleleng expected that in addition to becoming professional teachers, PPG will be able to address real-world issues through these leadership projects, aligning their efforts with community needs.
