Singaraja- After running for one semester, the Conversation Program and Speaking Class in collaboration with the University of Education of Ganesha and the international center for English Excellence (ICEE) were officially closed, Tuesday (17/12/2019). The activity which took place at the Undiksha General Seminar Building also included the handing over of certificates to the participants.
Deputy Chancellor I Undiksha, Dr. Gede Rasben Dantes, S.T., M.TI. accompanied by the Head of KUIK Undiksha, Prof. Dr. Ni Made Ratminingsih, M.A. appreciates this program which cannot be separated from the role of 3 ICEE tutors who have provided training for free. Two tutors are native speakers from the United States and 1 tutor is from Kalimantan, Indonesia. The three of them have collaborated to provide training for participants in this program.
Rasben hopes that this program can run sustainably, and can even develop into other activities. In addition, more students are involved, as well as staff and lecturers. “One thing I see from this activity is that students’ abilities related to using English are increasing and getting better. The most important thing is that they are confident in using English in several events,” he added.
Moreover, the youngest Vice Chancellor also revealed that there were many things that students could learn by participating in this activity. “Not only learning English, but here we learn to respect everyone, cooperate with others and collaborate,” he said. He also hopes that through this program as human beings they can understand each other and always learn from mistakes to improve themselves. “Don’t be afraid to make mistakes in learning. And for all students and lecturers who have participated in the program to continue to practice speaking English with friends on various occasions,” he added.
Besides that, the two tutors who attended, Erick Ginting and Rebekah Clement, said that each semester had its own uniqueness and story. Even for them, this semester is an extraordinary semester for them. “Truly extraordinary. For me, I am happy to get to know many students. We have many activities such as the Monday and Friday Program, then the city park program. Students are also enthusiastic about learning to use English. They are really confident. It’s been a great semester for me. I hope that next semester will be even more extraordinary.”, said Erick Ginting. Meanwhile, Rebekah, who is often called Ms. Becky is also very happy to be a tutor at Undiksha. “It’s been a great semester not only for us but also for the students. They come from various majors to study together. I hope everyone continues the process of learning English,” she added. Undiksha’s efforts to roll out this program are one of the strategies for the success of the Internationalization at Home Program launched in 2019. (hms)
