Singaraja-The Faculty of Sports and Health at the Ganesha University of Education (FOK-Undiksha) pays attention to employees and residents of the IIB Singaraja Correctional Institution (Lapas), especially in terms of organic waste management based on the eco enzyme. This attention was packaged through the Community Service program (PkM), which was held on 27-28 May 2022.
The activity was chaired by Dr. Made Agus Wijaya, M.Pd, with members Dr. I Ketut Yoda, S.Pd., M.Or., and I Gede Suwiwa, S.Pd., M.Pd. On the sidelines of the activity, Made Agus Wijaya explained Undiksha as one of the tertiary institutions in Bali has a commitment to providing knowledge, understanding, attitudes, and skills to community members.
The choice of the Singaraja IIB Prison as the target of the activity, he continued, was because based on observations, the organic waste in the form of leftover fruit skins and vegetable skins produced reached 15 kg per day and the inmates were not familiar with organic waste-based processing technology. eco enzyme and its implementation in everyday life in prisons. So far, the steps taken to handle waste have focused more on sorting and collecting waste to be transported to the Bengkala TPA, Kubudindingan District, Buleleng. “From this, we took the initiative to provide organic-based waste processing assistance enzyme,” he said.
Delivered further, the application of technology eco enzyme for processing organic waste because it is simpler and more practical. Practically what is meant is that from a very simple processing point of view, using materials that are easily available and economical. “The ingredients are only brown sugar or molasses, organic matter in the form of kitchen waste, vegetables or fruit that are no longer used, and water with a formula of 1 : 3 : 10. 1 part brown sugar or molasses, 3 parts organic matter, and 10 parts water. Very simple. The inmates are easy to make,” he explained.
Producteco enzyme, he continued, can be used in daily life in prisons, such as washing kitchen furniture, washing clothes, cleaning floors, cleaning bathrooms, removing odors from sewage and garbage cans, as a disinfectant, and also hand sanitizer. Besides that, it can also be used as liquid organic fertilizer, air purifying, and making the body fitter by soaking the feet in liquidate enzyme (detox). “This product has various benefits, so it deserves to be continuously campaigned and developed,” he added.
The PkM activity which took place in the Singaraja IIB Prison Meeting Room was opened by the Head of the Security and Order Section of the Singaraja IIB Prison, Ketut Arcana, S.Pd. He appreciated the implementation of this activity.“Inmates are very thirsty for new knowledge and skills while in prison, of course, the information and practice of eco enzyme is very useful for the assisted residents of Singaraja IIB Prison.,” he said to the 30 mentoring participants.
The implementation of this program presented two speakers, namely Ferry Tanaya, S.T., from the CommunityEco Enzyme Nusantara Buleleng Regency and I Putu Indrawan, S.Sos., from the Buleleng Environmental Service. The material presented consisted of organic waste management policies in Buleleng Regency, manufacturing theory, and practice eco enzyme. After that, the activity continued with harvesting and implementing eco enzymes in the IIB Prison environment. At the end of the activity, the service team handed over a 50-liter eco enzyme pure, hand sanitizer, receptacle/tonk chlorine, molasses, and acidity meter (pH meter) for use at Singaraja IIB Prison.
