Singaraja- The Covid-19 pandemic forced the world of Indonesian education to change its learning pattern. From what was originally face-to-face and direct interaction between students and teachers, it turned into learning online. The implementation of the physical distancing policy which later became the basis for implementing learning from home was also carried out in tertiary institutions. However, beyond that, the use of information technology in the form of distance learning (remote teaching and learning) is still an obstacle for many educators. Learning design principles for online learning activities still need to be prepared more thoroughly.
This condition is of concern to the English Language Education Study Program, Department of Foreign Languages, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Ganesha University of Education. Handling efforts are carried out through training which was opened, Monday (4/10/2021). The topic of the training is“Instructional Design for Remote Teaching and Learning”. Chairman of the Committee, Dr. I.G.A. Lokita Purnamika Utami, S.Pd., M.Pd explained that this activity was attended by 237 participants consisting of lecturers, teachers, and students both from within and outside Undiksha. “This activity is to provide understanding and training to educators in preparing effective and innovative learning designs that can be used in learning online,” she explained.
The training, which lasted until October 5, 2021, online, presented 2 speakers. First, Dr. Sarah Prestridge, is one Associate Profesor, Digital Pedagogies, School of Education and Professional Studies from Griffith University. It displays material on the principles of Instructional design for remote teaching. Second, Lane Throton, a teacher who works as acting Area Coordinator, Languages Ormiston College, Queensland, Australia. It displays material about learning a second language online for secondary school students.
Dean of the Undiksha Faculty of Languages and Arts, Prof. Dr. I Made Sutama, M.Pd., in his remarks expressed his appreciation for this activity. “Because during learning online In this case, our quality in teaching must be continuously improved so that the graduates’ achievements can be achieved well. This activity is very well done, because it will provide more knowledge and experience to teaching staff in designing, managing more experience to teaching staff in designing, managing and evaluating learning so that it becomes better,” he said.
