Singaraja- The last day of the 2022 Introducing Campus Life Period for New Students (PKKMB) at Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) was filled with the introduction of the Student Activity Unit (UKM). Through this moment, new students consisting of various study programs are encouraged to build soft skills in order to increase competitiveness.
There are 34 UKM that show their teeth in front of thousands of new students. All of them showed their best performances according to their fields, ranging from art, sports, and so on. This appearance which is also entertaining can be an attraction for new students. This appearance is also at the same time to provide an overview for new students in the selection of UKM which is mandatory during college.
The activity which was centered on the Undiksha Ceremony Field was opened by the Undiksha Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs, Alumni and Public Relations Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd. He was accompanied by AKPK Bureau Head, Drs. I Made Yasa, M.Pd., and the Head of the General Affairs and Finance Bureau, Ni Luh Wayan Yasmiati, S.H., M.Pd., said that UKM is one of the spaces to develop students’ interests and talents. Therefore, new students are invited to take advantage of this opportunity. Delivered further, student participation in UKM can later contribute to Undiksha through competition and achievements. “The achievements they have both at the national and international levels can later be used after they graduate as diploma companions so that they have something more,” he explained.
Delivered further, new Undiksha students are also motivated to improve their achievements, both at national and international levels. It was emphasized that Undiksha had issued a policy of converting achievements into several credits if they were in accordance with the courses taken.
In addition, the existence of UKM and other student organizations at Undiksha has an important role to play soft skills students who are not found in the classroom, such as responsibility, communication, and design activities.
A new student, Ni Putu Desi Tresnayanti revealed that this year’s PKKMB activities were extraordinary. Even though he took part in various activities, he felt it was very useful, especially to get to know more about the campus environment, lecturers, and so on. He also realized that the existence of UKM and student organizations is very important for the development of student soft skills. “During college, we didn’t just study but how did we fill ourselves up so that we would have a record of our achievements by participating in UKM,” she said.
Previously, new students were also invited to do greening in the campus environment. This activity is a manifestation of Undiksha’s vision which is based on the Tri Hita Karana philosophy, one of which is maintaining good relations and caring for nature and the surrounding environment. (hms)
